Drop cap, fancy letter A image with scrollwork. This letter image is different among many that we have seen as it combines the typical square rubber-stamp type image with a bit of doodle-like scroll work on the top and bottom of the letter.
This fancy letter A image is one of a set of 12 letters found in the same vintage book. The other letters are C, D, G, H,
I, J, M, O, P, T and W.
This set of fancy letters were all used in the 1881 book How a Little Boy Learned to Be Wise and Good. It was written by Helen Cross Knight (1814-1906). These images are most likely from the publisher Thomas Nelson and Sons.
