This vintage copyright free bird border drawing features a bird and a butterfly looking like they are ready to challenge each other for the same flower. What makes this black and white bird vignette even more interesting is the extra curli-cues coming out of each of the corners and giving this square-ish image a little less rigid border edge. This bird, butterfly and floral border looks easy to colorize and make even more striking than it already is.
This 1881 drawing was used in the book What the Blackbird Said. A Story in Four Chirps. It is the work of Randolph Caldecott (1846-1886).
