This pair of woodpeckers known as Williamson’s Sapsuckers are usually found in the western part of the United States. But thanks to the wonders of technology and the talented artist Louis Agassiz Fuertes the rest of us can share in the beauty of these striking birds. This woodpecker image has now fallen into the public domain and can be used by anyone needing colorful images of birds or realistic images of woodpeckers.
Whenever the artist is Louis Agassiz Fuertes (1874-1927) there’s a significant chance the work features birds. This drawing is one of many Birds of the Rockies that date back to at least 1902.
