Two different species of towhees share the same perch in this vintage illustration of birds. It’s a shame that this plate wasn’t done in color as the bird at the bottom is a very colorful bird with orange, black and white feathers. You can get a feel from this black and white image just how beautiful this bird is.
Whenever the artist is Louis Agassiz Fuertes (1874-1927) there’s a significant chance the work features birds. This drawing is one of many Birds of the Rockies that date back to at least 1902.
