A variety of birds appear to be having a meeting in the meadow in this vintage public domain bird illustration. Birds continue to arrive among the bushes overlooking the cow pastures below.
It is unclear who the artist was for this charming bird illustration. It may have been Kate Greenaway (1846-1901) as she was the artist of another bird image from Aunt Louisa’s Birthday Gift. But, when this work was published circa 1865, Scribner, Welford and Co or the author Laura Valentine (d.1899) only attributed one of the images. No matter who the artist is, based on the dates and people involved I feel fairly certain that this work is indeed firmly in the public domain.
