Round Celtic knot drawing. This public domain vignette was used on a title page for a book about shields. To me, it looks a bit like a button from an old military uniform.
James Drummond did not identify the artists who illustrated his book Highland Targets and Other Shields but we sure are lucky the 1873 work included such useful pieces like this one.
This image is copyright free and in the public domain anywhere that extends copyrights 70 years after death or at least 120 years after publication when the original illustrator is unknown.
