Vintage black and white drawing of a locust. Locusts are generally quite large but it is their summer song that most people are familiar with. On hot, steamy days you’ll often hear them long before you see them. This vintage book illustration was made using a wood cut. It could easily be used like you would a rubber stamp.
The History of Insects was published in 1813 without identifying an illustrator. Which is truly a shame because the work is full of wonderful insect drawings like this one.
