I love all of the cat drawings by Oliver Herford from this book. Except for the eyes, it’s clear that this is a pencil drawn cat. But, the eyes, they look like a photograph rather than a simple drawing. It was this technique of using just a hint of color that really makes Herford’s work hard to not stare at. The best part is that his work is now in the public domain and we can freely use this drawing of a kitten in our own creative endeavors.
This vintage cat drawing and the other’s from The Kitten’s Garden of Verse are among my favorites on Reusable Art. They all date to 1911 and were the work of Oliver Herford (1863-1935).
