It looks a bit like those wonderful postcards of an earlier era. In fact, this chicken family book illustration is from the early 1900s. Frederick Warne and Co published so many wonderful children’s books, including the one where I found this chicken drawing, Holidays at the Farm.
This full color illustration includes a very proud rooster looking over his flock. He’s one of those beautiful birds that have iridescent green and chestnut colored feathers. There’s also several hens and chicks joining him in the yard. In the background is two thatch-roofed buildings and a pair of trees.
The chicken family illustration is bigger than fits nicely on this page. If you are interested in seeing this rooster and his family in all their glory, just click on the image above to fully access public domain chicken drawing.
