Two children, dressed for a day at the beach meet a large parrot. The bird appears to be as curious about the children as they are about him. The girl, however, does appear to be a bit more interested in a sea-shell she is holding to her ear than the parrot sitting on their perch.

This simple, line style drawing is the work of Elmer Boyd Smith (1860-1943). It was included, with a number of other charming drawings of children, in his 1912 book entitled The Seashore Book, Bob and Betty’s Summer with Captain Hawes.
