My favorite harbinger of spring – the crocus, in this case, a lovely drawing of a purple crocus. This purple flower image comes from a book that was printed over 150 years ago. The purple crocus drawing was hand-painted with watercolors.
Here we have a lovely single crocus bloom with a yellow center and a trio of leaves. The stem has been cut. Too bad that a cut crocus flower doesn’t last near as long as this pretty painted one has.
Lessons From the Vegetable World included a number of flower illustrations. They were published in 1858 and now illustrator or watercolorist was credited for the work.
