If this dove banner drawing reminds you a bit of the Civil War, there’s a reason for that. It is from a historical work that documents a regiment that fought in that terrible conflict. It was used several times throughout the 1891 work as a title heading with text. No artist was identified.
In some ways, this vintage dove banner also reminds me a bit of more modern sketches including the doodling that’s so popular the past few years. The dove has a flat, paddle like tail but the wing is made up of a squiggle. There are other curli-cues embedded in the overall design. The dove holds a ribbon in her beak which is part of the banner where you could easily insert your own text.
