Cupid drawing a circle with a compass. Haven’t seen anything quite like this one before. I could see so many different interpretations and uses for it. Even more interesting is that it was included in a book comparing the work of Shakespeare with a number of other authors from 1870.
Chubby arms and legs and a small pair of wings tell us that this is likely Cupid. The circle he is drawing could easily represent the unbroken circle that we use to symbolize marriage. Perhaps with the circle incomplete, this image could represent falling in love?
It’s a charming black and white drawing that seems like a perfect fit for the Arts and Crafts section of Reusable Art. What will you create with it?
