Art deco style drop cap letter image frame. Granted this was drawn a little before the art deco period, to me it looked of that style. Whatever style you think would describe this letter image, wouldn’t it make a great drop cap frame for the fancy letter of your choice?
This was more than like a stock image purchased from a print foundry by the publisher of Der Pilger Kamanita. It was published in 1906. The author was KArl Adolph Gjellerup (1857-1919). This fancy letter image is fully in the public domain in the United States but it may not be everywhere.
This image is copyright free and in the public domain anywhere that extends copyrights 70 years after death or at least 120 years after publication when the original illustrator is unknown.
