It’s been a while since I’ve found a nice letter M drop cap to share with you. This one dates back at least to 1870, when it was included in a book about decorative design. Knowing that, it’s no wonder that they would use such an interesting and elaborate M drawing to start the preface of the book.
There are so many shapes and styles included in this letter image that I’m finding it a bit hard to describe it too you. Although earlier, it has a bit of an art deco look to the letter itself. The filigree like decorations surrounding the letter remind me a bit of delicate wrought iron work. There’s places with dark and light that make it a striking piece yet it remains elegant overall.
Hopefully, someone can utilize this elaborate M drawing to create a wonderful new design of their own.
