Don’t you just love these vintage hand-colored book plates? Professional artists, often unrecognized, painted each of the drawings that appeared in the book where we found these great plant drawings.
This vintage fern drawing shows the entire fern plant from the roots to the tips of three fully-matured leaves. There’s even a few young leaves just starting at the base of the plant.
This is one of a number of plant images which appeared in the 1858 publication Lessons From the Vegetable World.
This image is copyright free and in the public domain anywhere that extends copyrights 70 years after death or at least 120 years after publication when the original illustrator is unknown.
