This drawing was originally used as a picture frame image. A small portrait was positioned within the central square and the first and last name of the person where written on each side. Like so many of these frame drawings from Thomas Hill’s wonderful book, it could easily be made larger or smaller with a bit of editing. The frame is decorated with finial-like flourishes, several scrolls and straight lines. It would work wonderfully as the introduction to a children’s report on a famous historical person.
So many wonderful illustrations were included in the large work Hill’s Album of Biography and Art from 1882 by Thomas E. Hill. This is but one of them.
