This giraffe drawing brings back fond memories of my grandmother. We would all line up and smile our prettiest, she would snap the photo and after we had it developed discover she had chopped everyone’s heads off.
The charm Oliver Herford (1863-1935) puts into so many of his wonderful illustrations is sure on display with this animal image. We have a tall giraffe, who appears to be taller than a church spire. We only see his head in his shadow where he has a shape more like a goat than a stately giraffe.
I do hope if anyone used this fun tall giraffe drawing that they let me know. I would love to see it and share it with others. It dates back to 1899 when it was included in A Child’s Primer of Natural History.
