Oh, what a whimsical drawing this is. Another fun illustration from the talented artist Oliver Herford (1853-1935), this happy whale is a real charmer. He was in good company. The book A Child’s Primer of Natural History was full of charming illustrations that I’ve shared with you here on Reusable Art.
How fun is this drawing? A whale, who lives in the sea, is holding an umbrella over his head to avoid the water raining down after he has blown it out of his blow hole. You almost can’t help but smile with this happy whale. C’mon admit it. He’s charmed you.
I wish the image quality was a bit better but the lines are quite simple and could easily be traced to produce crisper lines. Or maybe, you like the vintage print feel of him the way he is right now.
Have fun. You sure know he is.
