Two children appear to be offering a trio of horses a special treat in this vintage drawing. It doesn’t look like the horses are pets but the elder child does seem to be showing the younger child that the horses won’t hurt her. The children and the horses are in a fence-enclosed area. In the background are a number of bales of hay.
It was offered as an outline picture to color and I think it is of a nice size and offers today’s children a nice image to color as well.
Like so many drawings from vintage children’s books, this one is not attributed to a particular artist. In this case, D. Lothrop and Company didn’t identify an author either. But, since the book, Little Crumbs and Other Stories was published in 1885, this and the other illustrations it contained are in the public domain.
