A gentleman and his horse jump a split rail fence in this vintage horse drawing. The equestrian sits his horse quite upright and proper in his top hat, red coat and riding pants. He reminded us of an English gentleman on a fox hunt but we’re hoping he was simply enjoying a day’s outing with his horse.
This vintage drawing dates back to 1869 when it was included in one of the children’s books published by Ward, Lock and Tyler of London. It was called Harry’s Ladder to Learning.
