Is it just me or does this greyhound look like a family pet waiting for someone to throw a ball for him to chase? After all, this dog breed was bred for coursing and racing, so why wouldn’t this wonderful vintage dog image show that trait?
Greyhounds generally weight between 60 and 88 pounds. They have become more of a pet breed now that racing greyhounds has become more and more socially unacceptable – particularly the treatment of retired racers.
While this drawing depicts a black dog, greyhounds actually have around 30 recognized color forms.
These dog drawings and hundreds of other vintage images were included by Thomas E. Hill in his 1882 work Hill’s Album of Biography and Art.
