Somehow, I suspect this fellow is more than a little larger than he would be in real life. Could you just imagine living somewhere where a “common house spider” was this big? I think I would have to build a moat around our house.
I just love these close-up photos and drawings of insects. They seem so much more forbidding when you can see all the hairs on their legs and torsos. This one is kinda pretty too. It’s from a children’s book entitled Who Were the First Weavers?. It was published in 1874 by Thomas Nelson & Sons.
