This initial letter P dates all the way back to 1457. It was part of an illuminated manuscript that is quite famous in the world of printing. Apparently, there has been great debate as to how much of the work was printed vs how much of the work was hand-painted. In my mind, what’s amazing is that over 450 years later, this work even still exists.
Whether painted or printed, this 2-color letter image is bold, dramatic and quite lovely. Additionally, the way the design has been done, you could easily change the height to adapt to your own needs. The letter is grey (technically, in the printing world, it’s ‘blue’) and red. With a bit of Photoshop or other editing software work, you could pretty much make it any color you wanted to.
