A book full of Japanese paintings on silk from the 1700s? How lucky is the person who owns such a beautiful piece art? I would be afraid to touch it, much less photograph or scan each painting for fear of damaging them. Thankfully, the owner permitted someone to capture these paintings in digital form for everyone to enjoy.
A Japanese landscape painting is the one I’ve chosen to share with you today. I’m guessing it depicts either sunrise or sunset over a coastal home. The sky is this wonderful shade of magenta. The home sits partially on land and partially on stilts over the water. A large tree adds height to the work and perhaps provides a bit of shade for the home. The home has at least one awning and is typical of Japanese architecture of the 1700s.
