One of a series of letters from an 1867 2-volume French work about flowers, this drop cap letter D image is one of my favorites.
A pretty rose sits beside the letter D. Since the illustration is in a block print style, the rose could easily be colorized any color you wish. The letter D features circles and crosses; as do all 13 of the letters they used with these books. Along with the rose, there’s some leaves, a rose bud and some other flowers in the background.
If you like this fancy letter image, you might also like the other 13 that were used across the two volumes of this book. You can view all of the letters at the vintage French Printer’s Letters page.
