Long before we had GPS systems, radar, and computer guidance systems, navigation was done through charts and the location of stars. Lighthouses provided sailing ships with a beacon that identified the coast and helped ships avoid running aground. The sailing ship in this drawing is staying safely away from the lighthouse on a rocky coastline being pounded by a heavy surf. This public domain lighthouse drawing can be used however you wish to add a bit of old world navigation and a nautical feel to your next project.
So many wonderful illustrations were included in the large work Hill’s Album of Biography and Art from 1882 by Thomas E. Hill. This is but one of them.
