Dolled up in a large yellow and green bow, a lion prances down a garden path. A crow wearing a red bow tie escorts the lion to a garden party. Greeting the new arrival is a pair of storks and a trio of monkeys. This fun anthropomorphic lion drawing reminds me of some of the post cards my grandmother used to send me as a child.
Johnny Crow’s Garden contained so many charming drawings. They were published in 1903 and were drawn by the artist Leonard Leslie Brooke (1862-1940).
