This vintage colored drawing of a dreaming little girl has left me a bit confused. The children’s book where this lovely illustration appeared provides no clue as to what the cherubs are bringing to the little girl or why. Are they love letters? Or maybe tissues? Or could they be little squares of cloth for her to make something with?
This sweet dreaming girl drawing might be a little vague as to a theme but the little girl in her white dress and dark tights sure is cute. With what looks like the branches of a smoke tree in the background, the wooden bench the girl is sitting on is covered with pillows to create a cozy place for her to take a little nap…and be visited by a quartet of cherubs.
I love it when I find vintage materials like 1890 Baby’s Annual Pictures and Stories for Little People. It was published oh so long ago that it is now completely in the public domain. It’s too bad the original artist(s) weren’t identified but that is why this book falls under the 120 years post publication aspect of copyright law.
