Perhaps not a humorous image of children, this Ida Waugh illustration shows what many children learn the hard way – don’t mess with bees. As he flails his arms and legs to ward off the angry horde, the offending stick with which he invaded their nest remains in place. When bees attack, it’s best not to do as this little boy is – it just makes the bees even crazier.

There’s just something so charming about the work of Ida Waugh (d.1919). It was use to illustrate Holly Berries which was published in 1881.
