This has got to be one of the largest fancy letters I’ve seen. Measuring 467 pixels tall, this bold and dramatic fancy letter S is sure to draw attention. Perhaps it should come with a bit of a disclaimer, “I am such a large and dramatic fancy letter image that whatever you use me with should be as equally eye-catching.”
The letter S is made from a winged dragon which is surrounded by a Gothic styled, box-like structure. Vines, reminiscent of iron work support the letter and add to its overall height.
Hill’s Album of Biography and Art is a wonderful vintage book by Thomas E. Hill. It was published in 1882. It was absolutely stuffed full of great illustrations. Some appear to be original to this book and I have spotted some in other publications of this period which would seem to mean they were either used by the publisher in multiple works or they were print foundry images.
