I wish this scenic endpaper was a bit bigger than it is but hopefully it will make a great background for someone’s project. A stone wall, a fence, a tall tree and a building are done in quiet tones in what could be a pencil drawing. It was used as the endpaper for a book published in 1927. Normally, that date would put this work in copyright but since the illustrator was identified we use his dates instead.
Thomas Fogarty (1873 – 1938) is an American illustrator most well known for his pen and ink works and this one, in my mind, is a lovely example. This lovely landscape is from the book Chimneysmoke.
I’m thinking that this would make a wonderful background image for a Christmas card. Add something a little red and perhaps a little green and you’ll have your own, unique design.
This image is copyright free and in the public domain anywhere that extends copyrights 70 years after death or at least 120 years after publication when the original illustrator is unknown.
