The white stripe along his beak is how this bird appears in nature and is one of the most distinguishing characteristics of this largest living member of the Alcidae family.

This book illustration appeared in The Voyage of the Vega Round Asia and Europe Vol. 1, written by A.E. Nordenskiold. It was published in 1881.
