This small owl engraving is not as large as I wish it was but I still hope someone will find it useful. This free vintage bird image is from a book published in 1880. It wasn’t about owls or even birds, the title was Petals Plucked from Sunny Climes. The author did not identify an illustrator or engraver.
Our little owl friend stands on a large branch amongst the leaves. While most of the owl drawings that I’ve seen from this era tend to focus on the bird’s eyes, this one really shows his long talons. I wouldn’t want to be on the wrong side of this guy. His pretty white chest has streaks of gray – the inspiration for this drawing probably had white feathers with brown striping.
