How interesting it is to look at what was once considered a modern steamship and think about how over 130 years later it looks so very old-fashioned. This 1880 steamship drawing was captioned, quite proudly, with “Ocean steamship of today”. It is definitely more sophisticated than some of the other steamship drawings on Reusable Art. It you are looking for a vintage steamship drawing or a ship during that transition from sail to steam, this black and white drawing might be just the ticket.
This is another wonderful drawing from the children’s magazine Harper’s Young People. It was included in the February 3, 1880 edition.
