It was always the highlight of any day our family spent at the beach to watch the sun slowly set over the water. It seemed like it was truly tucking down below the edge of the earth in a ball of flame.
This little drawing by Ida Waugh (1846-1919) captures some of the magic of a sunset over water. It was included in an 1892 children’s book.
Sea gulls search the waves for their supper. A sailboat sails off into the sunset. And the golden rays remind me of many happy times spent at the beach.
