A group of swans gather together in a quiet cove. The swans in this black and white bird image are of the Black Hooded species and are easily recognizable by their black heads and necks. This image is somewhat unusual with a circular central image surrounded by a larger image with tacks at each of the four corners.
When the illustrator is Harrison Weir (1824-1906) you know the drawing is going to be interesting. This one is one of many from an 1889 book he worked on called Bird Tales.
