Vintage children’s books have some of the loveliest illustrations. Even a simple little poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was colorfully illustrated with floral drop cap letters. This letter T image is one of nine letter images which appeared with his poem. The T itself is red with gold trim and is accompanied by what looks like red and green wild grasses.
The book was There Was a Little Girl. It was published in 1883 and identified the illustrator as Bertha M. Shaeffer.
The group does not cover the entire alphabet, nor does it only use each letter once, but we’ve included links to the entire group to make it easier for you to use them together or choose the one you think would work best for your project. The other letters are…A, B, H, S, S, S, T and W.
