One of my favorite postcard artists, Ellen H. Clapsaddle, created this charming Thanksgiving Day postcard that pays tribute to John Alden and Priscilla. Clapsaddle’s work is fairly distinctive and recognizable and often features children; as this vintage Thanksgiving postcard does.
John Alden was a cooper (barrel maker) who traveled on the Mayflower to America. He held a number of government positions in the Plymouth Colony and married fellow-traveler Priscilla Mullins. Both attended the harvest feast with the Wampanoag Indians in 1621, however, they were not yet married.
