This lovely specimen drawing of an American Cypress tree is over 200 years old. Each copy of the book in which it appeared was first printed and then hand-colorized. The result was beautiful tree images like this one. Hopefully, despite it’s age, someone will find this public domain tree image useful for their next project.
This tree drawing was created by Mark Catesby (1683-1749). Do you think he ever thought that almost 300 years after his death that we would still be enjoying his work. It was included in the 1767 book A Collection of 85 Curious Trees and Shrubs, the Produce of North America.
This image is copyright free and in the public domain anywhere that extends copyrights 70 years after death or at least 120 years after publication when the original illustrator is unknown.
