Black and white public domain drop cap letter U image. This fancy letter U image was from a text which had 12 other drop cap letters. While this image is slightly different from the others, they are all the same shape and size with a chiseled looking letter and curling vines. The other letter images include: B, C, E, H, I, L, M, N, O, S and T.
All of these letter images were included in the 1872 publicaiton A Book of Emblems with Interpretations Thereof. It remains unclear if the publishers Bell and Daldy used letters from a print foundry, they were drawn by the author Alfred Gatty (1809-1873) or they were drawn by some un-named artist.
This image is copyright free and in the public domain anywhere that extends copyrights 70 years after death or at least 120 years after publication when the original illustrator is unknown.
