You don’t need to be a scholar of American history to know who this is. George Washington was the first American president. He fought to end British rule in America and earned his place in history as a distinguished general in the War for Independence. He had hoped to leave public life but was selected as President at the convention in Philadelphia which framed the Constitution. He was inaugurated on March 30th, 1789 as the first President of the United States. He served two terms and is entombed at his home, Mount Vernon.
There were so many wonderful illustrations in Hill’s Album of Biography and Art. The 1882 work by Thomas E. Hill has provided more vintage illustrations for Reusable Art than probably any other resource I’ve found.
